About Chris

Book editor Chris Murray

A former journalist, newsletter editor, and international management consultant, Chris is a content editor, developmental editor and ghostwriter of nonfiction books specialized in business topics, including leadership, marketing, corporate strategy, entrepreneurship, and customer relationships. He has also collaborated on books in the fields of personal development, sustainability, and public health.

A graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Chris began his career as a reporter in Virginia and Massachusetts. In the late 1980s, Chris left journalism to join SMG France, a strategic consulting firm in Paris. SMG specialized in mergers and acquisitions and business development; a later joint venture added organizational development to the SMG portfolio. Through numerous and varied projects with companies in France, the United Kingdom and Scandinavia, Chris developed a first-hand understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by businesses around the world.

On his return to the U.S., Chris became the editor of Soundview Executive Book Summaries, an international newsletter on business books. During those years, he read and reviewed thousands of business books, and interviewed many of the world’s leading business book authors, including Jack Welch, Stephen R. Covey, Daniel Goleman, and Pat Lencioni. Several interviews were conducted in front of live audiences at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Radio City Music Hall in New York City, Frankfurt Opera House in Frankfurt, Germany, and Milano Congressi in Milan, Italy.

In 2006, Chris left Soundview to launch his own freelance editorial venture. As an independent editor, Chris has collaborated on more than 50 books (see a sample here) as an editor and coach, a developmental editor, a ghostwriter, and, at the request of publishers, a “book doctor” for manuscripts that require professional attention. He is the editor of The Marketing Gurus: Lessons from the Best Marketing Books of All Time, published by Penguin, and currently writes on published academic papers for the Ideas for Leaders platform.
